A litle About Gunung Batur

Gunung Batur (1717m) was erupted more than 20 times since 1800. Some eruptions took place in the following years; 1917, August 3, 1926, September 1963, Mai 1964 and March 1974. The major eruption in 1917 killed over a thausand people and destroyed the villages and temples in the surrounding area. The most recent crater was formed during the eruption which started on August 7, 1994, and which continues periodically. The cloud of smoke that comes out of the crater can sometimes be seen. Although the volcano is still active, but it doesn't stop people's curiosity to climb the mountain and enjoy the sunrise on the mountain top.

Itinerary

Batur Volcano Trekking will be held in the night. One day before the volcano trek, you should request breakfast packet and a wake up call at 1:30am at the reception of your hotel. At 2:00am our team will come to pick you up and drive you approx. 1 hour to Toya Bungkah, the starting point of the mount Batur volcano trek. Flesh lights will be ready prepared at the starting point. First, our trekking guide and you will follow a small path (5km long) under the eucaliptus trees along the lava field of the earlier eruption, then climb up the steep mountain for about 500m untill you reach the first viewpoint just about 100m before the top of the volcano. Before sunrise you can continue your trek untill you reach the top, where you will see the spectacular sunrise and the dramatic landscape of the surrounding area. Upon arrival at the mountain top, you can enjoy your breakfast and request a hot coffe or tea at a small hut there while waiting for the sunrise. After enjoying the sunrise and the excellent panorama, you have to follow your trekking guide and walk downhill back to the starting point. Before your trip continue, our tour guide will ask you if you want to do an optional activity like swimming in a hot spring nearby, otherwise you can leave for Tegalalang directly, to visit the most photographed rice-terraces of Ubud. Back to the hotel, then for the rest of the day, you have time to do an optional activity of your own choice.
